You're standing at the Major Oak, the most famous tree in Sherwood Forest, just outside the village of Edwinstowe. Take a look at that trunk. It's about ten metres around. You'd need quite a crowd to hug it. At its peak, the canopy spread twenty-eight metres and the whole tree weighed around twenty-three tons. It's thought to be somewhere between eight hundred and twelve hundred years old.
