You're standing at the Palazzo dei Diamanti, on Corso Ercole I d'Este in Ferrara. Take a good look at the walls. They aren't smooth at all. They're covered in around eight and a half thousand pointed marble blocks, each one carved to look like a diamond. That's where the name comes from. The marble is white with pink veins. Walk a little way along the façade and watch the light. The points aren't all set the same way. They're angled to catch and bounce back as much light as possible, so the whole wall seems to shimmer as you move.
