Hambacher Schloss in Neustadt an der Weinstraße

You're standing at Hambach Castle, high on the Schlossberg above the village of Hambach, on the edge of the Palatinate Forest. First, turn around for a moment. Below you roll the vineyards along the German Wine Route, and further east the wide plain of the Rhine. This spot was no accident. From up here you could watch the trade roads near Neustadt, and a branch of the pilgrims' Way of St. James too.
