You're standing at Colchester Castle, right in the middle of Castle Park. What you're looking at is the largest Norman keep in Europe: forty-six by thirty-four metres, one and a half times the footprint of the White Tower in London. That size is no accident. The Normans built it on top of the base of the Roman Temple of Claudius, once the largest Roman temple in Britain.
