You're standing at Orval Abbey, tucked away in the woods of the Gaume region. Start with the front of the building. There's a huge statue of the Virgin Mary up there, made by sculptor Lode Vleeshouwers. The clean, restrained architecture might look old, but it's less than a century old. It went up between 1926 and 1948, designed by architect Henri Vaes. Some people call it the Versailles of monasteries.
