You're standing at the Château d'Abbadie in Hendaye, high above the ocean. Take a good look at that skyline. Towers, battlements and little turrets make it look like a medieval fortress. Yet it was only built in the 1860s and 1870s, designed by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc and Edmond Duthoit. The style is Gothic Revival, with an Irish twist.
