Archaeological site Ani in Kars

You're standing in Ani, an abandoned Armenian city high on a plateau in eastern Turkey. Look around you: open grassland, scattered with the remains of churches, walls and palaces. On the east side, the ground drops away into the ravine of the Akhurian river. That river forms the closed border with Armenia right here.
