You're standing at Solunto, an ancient city perched high on the eastern slope of Monte Catalfano, about 180 metres above the sea. Take a moment to look around. Below you stretches the Tyrrhenian coast, and close by the rocky headland of Capo Zafferano juts out into the water. It's hard to imagine a better spot for a city. Living here wasn't easy, though. There was no spring, so nearly every house had its own cistern to catch rainwater.
