You're standing at the Skagens Museum, in Skagen, right at the top of Denmark, on the northernmost tip of Jutland. This is the home of the Skagen Painters. From the late 1870s, artists started coming here, and Skagen became the leading centre of Scandinavian painting of its day. Michael and Anna Ancher were part of it, and so were P. S. Krøyer and his wife Marie. What drew them? The light. Especially in summer it gets incredibly intense here, and they wanted to capture it on canvas.
