You're standing at the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge, high above the Mattertal valley near Randa. Look ahead. A thin ribbon of steel stretches almost half a kilometre across the Grabengufer ravine. It's 494 metres long, and when it opened in July 2017 it was the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world. It held that title until May 2021, when a 516-metre bridge opened in Arouca, Portugal.
