You're standing at Peñafiel Castle, high on a hill above the little town. Notice how long and narrow it is. The outer walls follow the edges of the ridge exactly, which gives the castle a rather unusual shape. Seen from above, it looks like a ship, with a pointed bow to the north and a blunt stern to the south. It's about two hundred and ten metres long, yet only thirty-five metres across at its widest.
