You're standing at the Kordopulov House in Melnik, the smallest town in Bulgaria. This big house on the town's eastern side was built in 1754, in the late Ottoman style, and it may well be the largest of its kind from that period. Take a look at how it's stacked. The lower floors are stone, the upper ones wood. Downstairs was for work: a wine cellar and a semi-basement for running the household. The jutting top floor was where the family actually lived. See the living room windows? Two rows of six. The top row mixes Venetian and Oriental styles, while the bottom row is classic Bulgarian Revival. Just outside the house you'll also find the ruins of a family chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara.
