You're standing at Museum Kaap Skil in Oudeschild, on the island of Texel. Look at the entrance building. It represents a cape, a landmark on shore that sailors used to find their way. And Skil? That's what Texel islanders call their own fishing village, Oudeschild. Until 2012 this was the Maritime and Beachcombers Museum. The building was designed by Mecanoo and has won several awards. The wood on the façade is recycled, taken from the sheet piling of the North Holland Canal.
