You're standing at the Faik Pasha Mosque, known locally as the Imaret of Arta. This is the old neighbourhood of Marati, on the right bank of the Arachthos river, about a kilometre and a half north of the famous Bridge of Arta. Start with the building itself. It's a square prayer hall, eleven and a half metres on each side, topped by a dome. See the little triangles around the base of that dome? They're known as Turkish triangles. At the north-west corner rises the round brick minaret, still standing up to its balcony.
