You're standing at Hohenwerfen, a castle built quite literally on the rock. Take a look around. The fortress sits on a rock pillar about 155 metres high, above the little market town of Werfen in the Salzach valley. All around you are the Berchtesgaden Alps and the Tennen Mountains. Salzburg is roughly forty kilometres to the north.
