Archaeological site Heroon in Municipality of Chalkida

You're standing at Lefkandi, a coastal village on the island of Euboea. It looks peaceful, but beneath this ground lies one of the most exciting digs in Greece. Look at the headland sticking out into the sea. Locals call it Xeropolis. An ancient settlement stood there, with a small bay on either side serving as a natural harbour. The water in front of you is the Euripos Strait. The cemeteries were on the hillsides to the northwest.
