You're standing at Jarlshof, right at the southern tip of Shetland's Mainland, close to Sumburgh and the south end of the airport. In front of you is an arm of the sea called the West Voe of Sumburgh. What makes this place special is time. People lived on this little patch of coast for thousands of years, from around 2500 BC right up to the seventeenth century. It's the whole history of Shetland in one short walk.
