You're standing at the Roman theatre of Cartagena, on the slope of Concepción hill, right by the port. Take a look at the setting. The Romans picked this spot on purpose. From the sea, you'd see this huge building straight away, a clear sign that Carthago Nova, as the city was called back then, mattered. The seating is built into the hillside, turned away from the easterly wind. And the theatre's main axis points exactly at the sunrise on the winter solstice.
