You're standing at Ras, also known as Stari Ras, or Old Ras. Here, about ten kilometres west of Novi Pazar, stood a medieval fortress complex, high above the valley of the river Raška. Take a look around. This position was exactly what made Ras important. Trade routes between the surrounding regions met right here.
