You're standing at the entrance to Gough's Cave, in Cheddar Gorge, the ravine cutting through the Mendip Hills in Somerset. Have a look at the rock around you. Behind it runs a cave more than three kilometres long and a hundred and fifteen metres deep. There's even a river inside: the Cheddar Yeo, the largest underground river system in Britain.
