Story · Castello di Canossa

You're standing at Canossa Castle, high in the hills of the province of Reggio Emilia in northern Italy. First, take a look at the rock it sits on. This spot was chosen for a reason. Around the year 940, Adalbert Atto, son of a Lombard nobleman from Lucca, built his stronghold right on the summit of this rocky hill.
