You're standing at Kilchurn Castle, the ruin on a rocky spit of land at the northeastern tip of Loch Awe, in Argyll and Bute. Take a good look at where it sits. When the castle went up around 1450, it stood on a tiny island barely bigger than the castle itself. People probably reached it over a causeway lying just under or just above the water. In 1817 the level of the loch was changed, and ever since, the old island has been joined to the shore on its eastern side.
